Hey everyone!

So I got my results back and what can I say… What fascinating stuff! Circle DNA was generous enough to offer me their full premium DNA test alongside an amazing Wellness box from Superdrug, which went down amazingly. What I was not expecting was such a bizarre insight into my genetics! So not only did this delve into my ancestral DNA but it was very perplexing because I got this totally different breakdown than I’ve been told growing up.

So my heritage has always been really weird to talk about because two of my grandparents were orphans. My paternal grandmother was actually with her biological mum who died suddenly and was left to get help as a toddler. She was such a caring and incredible lady and was so important to me growing up, she passed away when I was very young but left notes for me in coffee table books that I treasure now I’m older. I never got the chance to share my adult success with her or ask questions, but all the information we knew about her ancestry was that she was Italian. My maternal grandma was literally like my other mum, she was with me 99% of the time and was so outrageous as a person and amazing, I miss her dreadfully as well and she had an awfully sad start too. She was given into care and grew up into a children’s home, and she was put into a household and then taken away again and wasn’t stable at all until later on. So with her heritage, I have absolutely zero ideas and she’s the cover of last issue five. I look more like her than my other grandparents and we share blue, almost purple eyes. She had darker hair and olive features so again, I don’t know what her background was.

My two grandparents, I have information about, my paternal is Lawrence and we have a pretty laid out timeline dating back to the Caribbean and America, Lawrence is my actual surname so it was interesting to read up on. However, I did not have any information about one of my great-grandparents being South Asian? I was under the impression that I had black heritage and I have black second cousins and I have some of that in my DNA, but it was a real shock to my system when I found that out. My maternal grandfather was Harwood and we also have information about his heritage, so it’s been super insightful and a fascinating storybook because I’ve always been very proud of having mixed features and I fully understand where they come from now.

The next part I was very interested in was my nutritional intolerances because for my whole life I have been scarred by my childhood experiences of trying to eat meat, and everyone has been trying to convince me that you cannot be allergic to meat, but I am predisposed to a massive sensitivity to the toxins released from meat, so here you go! There is some information to back up the experience I’ve had. It also said I am majorly sensitive to carbs, which only became apparent a year ago and I am a supertaster which means I have a reason for hating things like wine apparently! I can taste all the chemical composition and it’s never pleasant, so very interesting stuff!

So the other interesting things that stood out, and they have loads of information including drug sensitivity and information about exercises you should do ahha! But I liked the part that said my IQ was gifted hahaha. It was also super interesting to find out I am a carrier of Usher syndrome because me and my mum have significant symptoms of this and we’ve not heard of it before, so it is useful in the extreme for getting to the bottom of the situation.

So definitely check out Circle DNA if you wanted to get a complete genius and comprehensive look int your genetics.
