Westcord Amsterdam Art Hotel + City Sights

Hey everyone!

So one of the excursions I wanted to cover on Agitprop was the wonderful city of Amsterdam, in Holland! I have been to Amsterdam leisurely several times in my teenage years and I actually love more than just the expected. I get that everyone wants to focus on the weed, the red light district and the magical mushrooms, but there is an assortment of things you can actually do there if you’re a fan of art, culture and history.

When I was a kid, my mum always used to share with me the images of her hollidays with my great aunt and grandparents, all over Europe and they’ve been to everywhere you can think of. There was a massive photo of her in the Zanse region in a clog, and strangely enough we got to relive that moment and you can read all about it here.

So Amsterdam has loads of beautiful canals and bridges, so the natural thing to discuss would be transport. Amsterdam is sort of a magical bedlum because in between the trams, you get a million bicycles rushing in and out of traffic. There are boat cruises which we took along the main canal, just at this point photographed above was the visual of seven bridges in unison which were all lit up. I wish we got a photo to show this properly as it was quite a fun experience but any local tour guide can describe the location.

We stayed at the Westcord Amsterdam Art Hotel, which was a upgrade from some of the previous locations I stayed here. It was still a three star and just a fun, colourful and comfortable hotel. There is a couple of these Hotels and one is themed with fashion, this one was colourfully grafittied throughout and the awesome backdrops to each room and the communal breakfast areas were really decorative. It is located next to the Westerpark and is within walking distance of the center of Amsterdam, so if you are looking for a reasonably priced stay at around £130 a night.

A european breakfast buffet was offered and some awesome artwork. Recently I was looking through my photographs on a lost icloud account, and I found a massive portrait of Amy Winehouse made of pills. I was on a birthday date with the Baron and he had worked with Amy on her first album, so it stuck in my memory. When I saw this one it was just a bit of a synchronistic moment so I had to snap a photo.

Colouring the streets are an assortment of strange hat shops, subsiding architecture and vintage markets. Flower season starts in April so we missed out on that option, but I couldn’t leave without one image of the Mary J Macaroons.
